BOTSWANA RECOGNISED AMONG THE WORLD’S MOST ATTRACTIVE MINING DESTINATIONS

Botswana’s mining sector continues to earn global recognition for its stability, transparency and long-term investment potential. According to the Fraser Institute Annual Survey of Mining Companies 2025, Botswana ranks among the world’s leading mining jurisdictions:

  • 2nd best mining policies in the world (Policy Perception Index)
  • 7th globally on the Investment Attractiveness Index
  • 14th globally for best practice mineral potential

These rankings confirm what investors increasingly recognise: Botswana is Africa’s most competitive and secure mining jurisdiction.

But the story goes beyond rankings.

Botswana is shifting decisively from resource extraction to value creation. The focus now is on expanding industries around mining through beneficiation, manufacturing and downstream processing.

Opportunities are emerging across several value chains including:

  • Rare earth and critical mineral processing
  • Copper and base metal refining
  • Coal gasification
  • Manganese for battery technologies
  • Soda ash industrialisation
  • Diamond cutting and branding

For Botswana and Batswana, this transition means more jobs, stronger supply chains, skills development and greater participation in mining-linked industries.

At the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC), our role is to translate Botswana’s global reputation into real investment outcomes. Through investor facilitation, partnerships and strategic promotion, BITC is working to attract investment across the mining value chain and anchor long-term value within Botswana.

Botswana’s mining sector has powered the country’s development for more than five decades. The next phase is about industrialisation, diversification and shared prosperity.

Botswana is ready.
